Whole grilled rainbow trout is one of our favorite grilling recipes. It’s super easy to prep and the flavor from grilling is amazing.

We love fish and especially love grilled fish. This whole grilled rainbow trout is no exception. Joe and I used to be intimidated by the idea of grilling fish because we thought it would be really easy to overcook fish. I’m the prepper and Joe’s the griller. The prep is super easy but the grilling does take a bit of practice. It’s easier than we thought though and once we took the leap – it’s been fantastic. It actually is not that difficult to cook it correctly.
Don’t be afraid to try grilling fish – once you do it a few times you’ll realize how easy it can be!

- Olive oil
- 1/2 lemon, thinly sliced
- 4 sprigs fresh thyme
- salt and pepper
Instructions
- Preheat grill for high heat, clean and oil grates
- Rub inside and outside of trout with olive oil. I like to use garlic olive oil inside and regular olive oil outside. This helps keep the fish from sticking to the grill.
- Sprinkle cavity with salt and pepper and place 2 lemon slices and 2 sprigs of fresh thyme in each.
- Grill at 400 degrees for approximately 5-6 minutes per side, turning once, until fish flakes easily and skin is browned.
